Wood stove installation involves more than placing a stove in a room. The exact appliance, proposed location, hearth, connector pipe, chimney system, route through the building, and required clearances work together. A used opening or existing chimney should not be assumed compatible until the stove and full vent path are identified.
New installation versus stove replacement
A new installation may require a suitable base, wall or ceiling transitions, and a complete chimney route. Replacing an existing stove can appear simpler, but outlet size, connector arrangement, chimney condition, hearth dimensions, and the new appliance instructions may differ. Reusing part of a system is a property-specific decision, not an automatic part of replacement.
Placement and clearances affect the room
Stove location can be limited by nearby walls, furniture paths, doors, windows, ceilings, combustible finishes, and the route available for the chimney. Heat shields or wall protection should not be assumed to create a universal reduced distance. The appliance label and instructions, complete assembly, and applicable requirements control the layout.
Hearth, connector, and chimney are different components
The hearth supports and protects the area around the appliance. The connector joins the stove to the chimney, and the chimney carries exhaust through the building and outdoors. Each has its own condition, dimensions, support, access, and compatibility questions. A fireplace flue or prefabricated fireplace system is not automatically suitable for a freestanding stove.

Appliance model, new or replacement scope, placement, chimney route and height, existing flue condition, connector layout, hearth work, building penetrations, access, and local requirements can affect cost.
